The process of giving an allowance of Rs. 5,000 to selected categories including Samurdhi recipients and low income earners commenced this morning. This is against the backdrop of some Grama Niladhari and Samurdhi Officer Trade Unions stating that they will not support it.
The Sri Lanka Grama Niladhari Association stated that they are withdrawing from the payment of the allowance of Rs. 5,000 due to the irregularity of this program.
However, the President of the Sri Lanka United Gampaha Grama Niladhari Association Keerthi Tissa stated that the payment of Rs. 5,000 will be made by the officials of his association.

Tom Cotton Introduces Bill to Make States That Send Cash to Illegal Aliens Ineligible for Federal Funds
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) introduced the No Bailouts for Illegal Aliens Act Monday which will make states sending money to illegal aliens ineligible for federal funds.
The legislation Cotton authored, if passed, will amend the American Rescue Plan Act in order to withhold funding authorized under the American Rescue Plan Act from any State or unit of local government that provides relief funds or monetary payments through a program exclusively targeting illegal immigrants.

The Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (Monetary Board) has decided to suspend business of Swarnamahal Financial Services PLC (SFSP), in terms of Section 31(1) of the Finance Business Act, No. 42 of 2011 (FBA) with effect from 5:00 p.m. on 12th April 2021.
Having considered the continuously deteriorating financial condition and non-availability of a viable revival plan, the Monetary Board decided to suspend the business of SFSP and its parent Company ETI Finance Limited (ETIF) in terms of Section 31(1) of the FBA with effect from 13th July 2020 and the period of suspension of business activities was in effect until 12th January 2021.
